![]() ![]() ![]() I hope you can join us for upcoming Dance Series performances which offer moments of beauty and surprise, as will our remaining ENCORE event-a pre-performance dinner with members from The State Ballet of Georgia. To those who donated to this vital commissioning program that supports new works-thank you. Welcome to a very special Northrop 2022-23 Dance Season event! It is a privilege to have you in attendance at The Joffrey Ballet featuring another Northrop Centennial Commission- Of Mice and Men-John Steinback’s literary classic adapted by choreographer Cathy Marston. Thank you, and enjoy tonight’s performance. ![]() I invite you to learn more about the Northrop Centennial Commissions program, our current projects, and how you can support the ongoing creation of new work infused with new perspectives. If you donated your ticket back to Northrop, or have made a donation to this fund since then, thank you for dreaming big with us. These ticket donations were the seeds that became the Northrop Commissioning Project Fund. When performances were canceled due to the arrival of the pandemic in March 2020, 239 of you donated the value of your tickets to Northrop. You helped to make tonight's performance possible. I also want to give a special thanks to our subscribers and donors. I invite you to take a couple minutes to watch this beautiful video about the process of its creation. Northrop is very proud to be a co-commissioner of The Joffrey Ballet’s reimagined Of Mice and Men. This transformational program will continue to support at least one company each year, acting as a runway to Northrop’s centennial anniversary in 2029 and leaving behind a legacy of new work to be appreciated for generations to come. This program provided eight companies, whose performances were either canceled or postponed, with residencies and financial support to create new work, while simultaneously offering our communities opportunities to engage with the artists throughout the process. Instead, we innovated, invested in artists, audiences, and the future, and the Northrop Centennial Commissions program was born. While many of our performances moved to various online formats, others, such as The Joffrey Ballet, faced cancellation or indefinite postponement. ![]() The arrival of COVID-19 in March of 2020 forced us all to reimagine our relationship to live performances and large gatherings and to reconstruct the ways that audiences and artists connected. This performance is emblematic of the pandemic’s ongoing silver linings. It is truly a delight to welcome them to the Carlson Family Stage tonight for a program that will showcase the depth and breadth of The Joffrey Ballet’s excellence. The Joffrey was originally scheduled to be part of the 2020-2021 season that was entirely reshaped due to the pandemic, and then was rescheduled again after the January parapet wall collapse here at Northrop. I used Fractal Ax8's plexi emulation, Cubase 9.5 to record audio and midi, Addictive Drums II for drums and Trillian for bass.Greetings! Welcome to this very special performance by The Joffrey Ballet! They say that the third time's the charm and that certainly holds true this weekend. It’s a great exercise for late beginner and intermediate players. This lesson combines riffs, power chords and lead melodies. The chorus is arranged with octaves, and in the coda, I harmonize the first riff in diatonic thirds. The first part starts with a riff focused in E pentatonic minor, then I go one octave higher to play lead vocals melodies combining single note ideas with octave chords. The scales used for riffs and licks are E pentatonic minor and E aeolian minor. Most of their songs are in minor keys, but you'll also find some major stuff in their discography. As you can hear, they have a rocker sound but they always keep a dance feel in their tunes. In this lesson I've created an arrangement based on their biggest hit called "Take me out". They have strong influences from bands like Talking Heads, Duran Duran, Kraftwerk, The Beatles and Gang of four. Their style is usually labeled as Indie rock, Dance Punk and they are also considered part of the Post Punk Revival. Welcome to my new lesson in style of Franz Ferdinand, and indie rock band from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in 2001. ![]()
